Insulin and Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not utilise insulin appropriately. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that is required for sugar transport from the bloodstream to the cells for energy production. When our bodies become responsive to insulin, our blood sugar levels fall out of balance, resulting in type 2 diabetes. As a result, we want to do all possible to maintain our insulin sensitivity. Our bodies do a better job of transferring glucose from the bloodstream into cells when we are insulin sensitive.

Various medicines, meals, vitamins, and minerals have been demonstrated to assist maintain normal blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity.

Exercise improves insulin sensitivity as well. Exercise helps us control our weight and lose body fat in addition to boosting insulin sensitivity. Maintaining insulin sensitivity requires strict weight management.

A healthy diet is another crucial aspect in maintaining correct blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. Most vegetables, fruits, cereals, and nuts contain complex carbs that take a long time to digest. Slowing down the digestive process supports appropriate blood sugar levels and prevents the highs and lows associated with refined sugar consumption. Saturated fats should also be avoided. Fish, olive oil, and flaxseed include healthful lipids that assist us to maintain insulin sensitivity.

Insulin resistance causes Type 2 Diabetes, which is the most common type of diabetes. The approaches listed above have been demonstrated to be particularly effective in preserving insulin sensitivity, promoting lower blood sugar levels, and preventing diabetes complications.
