Prevention of Heart Disease in Diabetic Patients

 


   The best way to prevent diabetes and heart disease is to make some lifestyle modifications and take medication (if required). These small but powerful adjustments can help manage diabetes and minimise the risk of developing heart disease or stop it from getting worse.

Balanced diet: 

Increase your intake of fresh fruits, veggies, lean protein, and whole grains. Keep away of processed foods, including fast food, soda, chips, and sweets.

Healthy weight: 

Triglyceride and blood sugar levels typically rise when a person is obese or overweight. Keep your BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 

Stay Active : 

For both diabetes and heart disease prevention, 150 minutes per week of brisk walking or moderate exercise is recommended.

Control the ABCs:

Get a routine blood sugar reading (A1C) every two to three months.

Maintain a blood pressure of less than 140/90 mm Hg.

Monitor your cholesterol levels.

Either stop smoking or never start. 

Reduce stress: High blood pressure is linked to increased levels of stress.  try deep breathing exercises, meditation.
